thursday

imagine that you have already achieved your goals. if one of your goals is to learn to surf, say out loud: "i am a confident surfer" then put it out there to the universe by saying "so be it". your positive energy will have you on the track to success in no time.

my goal's to be a mum. is that bad? i definitely think so. i am a confident mum. :P nahh... i am confident that i will do a good job next year. *nods* according to lynn and ann, i have a "von-nod", so i guess that would be it. *confuzzled*

tomber

tomber :: to fall

i'll tell you flat out
it hurts so much to think of this
so from my thoughts i will exclude
the very thing that
i hate more than everything is
the way i'm powerless
to dictate my own moods

i've thrown away
so many things that could've been much more
and i just pray
my problems go away if they're ignored
but that's not the way it works
no that's not the way it works

when i go down
i go down hard
and i take everything i've learned
and teach myself some disregard
when i go down
it hurts to hit the bottom
and of the things that got me there
i think, if only i had fought them

if and when i can
clear myself of this clouded mind
i'll watch myself settle down
into a place where
peace can search me out and find
that i'm so ready to be found

i've thrown away
the hope i had in friendships

i've thrown away
so many things that could have been much more
i've thrown away
the secret to find an end to this
and i just pray
my problems go away if they're ignored
but that's not the way it works
no that's not the way it works

any control i thought i had just slips right through my hands
while my ever-present conscience shakes its head and reprimands me
reprimands me
then and there
i confess
i'll blame all this on my selfishness
yet you love me
and that consumes me
and i'll stand up again
and do so willingly

you give me hope, and hope it gives me life
you touch my heavy heart, and when you do you make it light
as i exhale i hear your voice
and i answer you, though i hardly make a noise
and from my lips the words i choose to say
seem pathetic, but it's fallen man's praise
because i love you
oh God, i love you

and life is now worth living
if only because of you
and when they say i'm dead and gone
it won't be further from the truth

when i go down
i lift my eyes up to you
i won't look very far
cause you'll be there
with open arms
to lift me up again
to life me up again

soundtrack of the week

  1. John Legend "Get Lifted"
  2. Ben Lee "Catch My Disease"
  3. The Postal Service "Such Great Heights"

this week i will

  • do something nice for a friend or a member of my family.
  • take some time out everyday just for myself and do something I love that benefits only me!
  • keep a diary of every single thing I do this week and record the way I'm feeling at the time.

exercise to try: arm candy
yoga is great for your arms (just check out madonna's shapely limbs) but to get yours looking good in singlet tops try one of these: ballet, tennis, rock climbing or biceps and triceps curls with small weights.

monday

:: poem, poetry, verse

容詩韻

:: to hold, to contain, to allow, appearance, look, countenance

:: poem, poetry, verse

:: rhyme, vowel

i have a point. i'm getting there. yes. anyway, dad always used to tell me that my name () meant rhythm, but it means rhyme. *shrugs* ah well. dad and mum still want me to be poetic and musical. it's all that kicking i did before i was born, every time i heard music. *sigh* i was so energetic then...

ABBA, 'cos everyone goes through an oldies faze and mine just happened to be ABBA. And 'cos Mum got an ABBA dvd for Christmas and it's scary how many of the words i know. i love this song, agree with the words completely. 'cos, think about it... what would happen if there wasn't music in the world? what would you do without music? i ask bori (our music vice-captain) this, and she answers me with this shocked look. i laugh and concur.

I'm nothing special, in fact
I'm a bit of a bore
If I tell a joke, you've probably heard it before
But I have a talent, a wonderful thing
'Cause everyone listens when I start to sing
I'm so grateful and proud
All I want is to sing it out loud

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk
She says I began to sing long before I could talk
And I've often wondered, how did it all start?
Who found out that nothing can capture a heart
Like a melody can?
Well, whoever it was, I'm a fan
So I say

Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

I've been so lucky, I am the girl with golden hair
I wanna sing it out to everybody
What a joy, what a life, what a chance!

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

ok, so i'm not the girl with golden hair... i have chocolate hair... *shrugs* meh.

thursday
health: go for foods with a low GI - have wholegrain instead of white bread. low GI foods keep you fuller and with energy for longer.
beauty: get rid of chipped nail polish and give yourself a manicure and pedicure in a gorgeous summer colour. nice hands and feet are an easy confidence boost.

you should see my nails! they're pink! i brought my swimmers and looked for a colour that matched one of the colours on it. only problem is... i cut my nails this morning. so i have really really short nails. meh. still cool. and guess what?! nail polish was on sale! so i had enough money to buy it. yay!

tomorrow is organising Christmas presents day and Christmas Eve Eve. yay! Christmas on Sunday!

Finding the GI spot!
Foods only appear on the GI index if they contain carbohydrate. This explains why you won't find foods like fresh meat, chicken, fish, eggs and cheese in GI lists. However, you may find some processed foods like sausages or chicken nuggets in a GI list because they contain flour!

Low Glycaemic Index foods (55 or less)
Include some of these foods in each meal or snack, but go for low-fat choices where possible, such as skimmed milk. If you want to lose weight, you'll also need to watch your portion sizes. That means sticking to small servings of pasta and noodles, limiting yourself to two slices of bread with a meal, and having only a couple of squares of chocolate or a small handful of peanuts!

Table 1 - Low GI Foods

Food :: GI
Roasted and salted peanuts :: 14
Low-fat yoghurt with sweetener :: 14
Cherries :: 22
Grapefruit :: 25
Pearl barley :: 25
Red lentils :: 26
Whole milk :: 27
Dried apricots :: 31
Butter beans :: 31
Fettucine pasta :: 32
Skimmed milk :: 32
Low-fat fruit yoghurt :: 33
Wholemeal spaghetti :: 37
Apples :: 38
Pears :: 38
Tomato soup, canned :: 38
Apple juice, unsweetened :: 40
Noodles :: 40
White spaghetti :: 41
All Bran :: 42
Chick peas, canned :: 42
Peaches :: 42
Porridge made with water :: 42
Lentil soup :: 44

Crisps :: 54
Special K :: 54
Banana :: 55
Raw oatbran :: 55
Sweetcorn :: 55

Medium Glycaemic Index foods (56 to 69)

You may include a few of these foods each day, but again limit portion sizes if you want to lose weight.

Table 2 - Moderate GI Foods

Muesli, non toasted :: 56
Boiled potatoes :: 56
Sultanas :: 56
Pitta bread :: 57
Basmati Rice :: 58
Honey :: 58
Digestive biscuit :: 59
Cheese and tomato pizza :: 60
Ice cream :: 61
New potatoes :: 62
Coca cola :: 63
Apricots, canned in syrup :: 64
Raisins :: 64
Shortbread biscuit :: 64
Couscous :: 65
Rye bread :; 65
Pineapple, fresh :: 66
Cantaloupe melon :: 67
Croissant :: 67
Shredded wheat :: 67
Mars bar :: 68
Ryvita :: 69
Crumpet, toasted :: 69
Weetabix :: 69
Wholemeal bread :: 69

High Glycaemic Index foods (70 or more)
Swap these foods for those with a low GI value or eat them together with a low GI food. Having a jacket potato with baked beans, for example, will lower the GI value of that whole meal.

Table 3 - High GI Foods

Mashed potato :: 70
White bread :: 70

Bagel :: 72
Branflakes :: 74

be like your 'rents and read the paper over breakfast. aim to read at least one newspaper (check out an online version like www.theaustralian.news.com.au) a day to make sure you're up to date.

breakfast? what breakfast?
von's routine in the morning:
wakes up :: realises she has 5 mins before the bus comes :: washes up :: chucks on uniform and ties hair up :: runs out of house shouting a bye to dad and dan :: arrives at bus stop with minutes to spare

OR

wakes up late :: groans because she's missed the bus :: takes time doing the usual morning stuff :: rolls eyes at daniel being silly :: runs through bag to check that she's got everything :: grabs a muesli bar :: runs out door before dad drives away

again, i say... what breakfast?!

exercise to try: feel the burn *von groans*
forty-five minutes of exercise, three days a week, is ideal for burning fat and toning all over. swimming, running, joggin, cycling, rowing and dance will do it

*sigh* oh dear...

you don't have to be the next van gogh to create fabulous works of art for your walls. invest in some artist's canvas and go crazy with colour - stripes, spots, splashes and shapes. buy a polaroid camera and create your own exhibition.

mmhmm... nothing to do now 'cos i'm too cheap to go out and actually buy things for my room... *shrugs* ah well... looking forward to next week... and i will start studying flashcards for next year *sigh*

1. who sent this to u? Nay

2. how did u meet this person? church. I remember Nay came to our Sunday School class once when we were still in Ainslie (although, I don't know why cos you should have gone to Dot's class *shrugs*) and Lynn wasn't there (I think) and she knew what jodhpurs were and i was like "she is so cool..." (cos James used to pay me out for horseriding) and she liked cats but she didn't have a cat (yet). Mmhmm yep...

3. how long have u known that person? know as in know of or know as in know know? well... we've been in isaacs for at least 3 years now.. right? so longer than 3 years... and the year 10's came to yf in year 9... so 3 years... yep... take your pick

4. anything special about this person? nup! :D ........................................................................ oh... i'm supposed to say yes? ohhhh... :P Nah... Nay's the same age as me!!! exactly! although there's a 12 hour (or so) difference, (hong kong and singapore time's the same... right?), but yes... same birthdate. And she's one of the very few people i know who gets all excited about fair trade and charities and... stuff... And yes... I love Nay :) i mean... you... *confused* am I talking in 2nd or 3rd person? anyway... I can tell Nay almost anything...

5. wat kind of a person do you think this person is? crazy crazy crazy crazy... :P and bouncy and happy... a bit loud :P but you've got to be noisy to combat my un-noisiness (mostly) and shyness... great singer & piano player... awesome friend... umm ummm.. *shrugs* i don't know!

6. what do you want to know at this point? if i'll actually do anything productive during the holidays...

7. tag another 8 ppl NO! I don't feel like it! Or rather, I don't know another 8 people who: 1. have a blog and use it and 2. haven't been tagged by Nay

now that you're super-organised and tidy, it's time for the fun part! transform your spce into the coolest bedroom on the block by getting creative. bright fabrics are great for throwing over your doona, covering pillows or stretching over artists' canvas to create instant artwork. wooden bangles make great curtain rings. pick up cheap ons from the markets then decorate them (by page 42). fairy lights create a cool atmosphere. drape them around your windows.

exercise to try
Fergie from the BEP does this exercise everyday: lie on the floor, stretch your legs out, point your toes and raise and lower each leg while squeezing your stomach muscles.

the reinvention tour :: Ready for a newer, cooler you? Then look no further. We've got a week by week guide to reinventing yourself. From looking Sienna-stylish to making your soul beautiful and having a social life to rival an A-lister's, anything's is possible. Say goodbye to your old self, the new fabulous you is just around the corner. Get ready girls... the summer of 2006 is about to go down as the summer you changed your life.

Ok... so maybe I'm not changing my life... but it's something to do in the holidays... and I have to start getting ready for AST anyway *sigh* ewwww.... year 12. anyway...

week 1 :: room
monday
grab a few bin bags and start clearing out all the stuff you don't need - it's time to be ruthless! you'll be amazed by how much useless junk you've accumulated. rubbish can be binned but remember that one person's trash could be another person's treasure so put anything in good condition to one side and take them to a charity shop, or organise a market stall with some friends.

tuesday
now you've cleared some space it's time to get organised. if you feel like your room always looks messy no matter how much time you spend tidying it, you're probably lacking in storage space. if you're short on shelves or drawers, try creating your own storage boxes by covering shoe boxes with cool magazine pics or funky wrapping paper and stacking them on your shelves or inside your wardrobe

wednesday
scientific studies have proved that a tidy and organised work space helps you to concentrate and makes you more productive and creative. file your paperwork in folders so you don't waste time looking for things the same goes for your computer desktop. keep all your documents and pics in folders for easy access.

ok.. so i got it from a chick magazine... at least i'm doing something productive during the holidays... and today, i'm gonna sort through my notes this year and write it all out again neatly. *sigh*

Die Loreley

Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten,
Daß ich so traurig bin,
Ein Märchen aus uralten Zeiten,
Das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn.
Die Luft ist kühl und es dunkelt,
Und ruhig fließt der Rhein;
Der Gipfel des Berges funkelt,
Im Abendsonnenschein.

Die schönste Jungfrau sitzet
Dort oben wunderbar,
Ihr gold'nes Geschmeide blitzet,
Sie kämmt ihr goldenes Haar,
Sie kämmt es mit goldenem Kamme,
Und singt ein Lied dabei;
Das hat eine wundersame,
Gewalt'ge Melodei.

Den Schiffer im kleinen Schiffe,
Ergreift es mit wildem Weh;
Er schaut nicht die Felsenriffe,
Er schaut nur hinauf in die Höh'.
Ich glaube, die Wellen verschlingen
Am Ende Schiffer und Kahn,
Und das hat mit ihrem Singen,
Die Loreley getan.
~ Heinrich Heine, 1823

I cannot determine the meaning
Of sorrow that fills my breast:
A fable of old, through it streaming,
Allows my mind no rest.
The air is cool in the gloaming
And gently flows the Rhine .
The crest of the mountain is gleaming
In fading rays of sunshine.

The loveliest maiden is sitting
Up there, so wondrously fair;
Her golden jewelry is glist'ning;
She combs her golden hair.
She combs with a gilded comb, preening,
And sings a song, passing time.
It has a most wondrous, appealing
And pow'rful melodic rhyme.

The boatman aboard his small skiff, -
Enraptured with a wild ache,
Has no eye for the jagged cliff, -
His thoughts on the heights fear forsake.
I think that the waves will devour
Both boat and man, by and by,
And that, with her dulcet-voiced power
Was done by the Loreley

N.B. I did not translate it. I got it off the Internet. Too much effort translating... But I might, one day, just before T1 starts so I can say I've done some German in the holidays. Oh...and maybe I'll borrow Harry Potter in French and German over the holidays.

O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, in your name I will lift up my hands psalm63.1-4
