gewinnen
we LOST!!! (in other words, aren't winning) there is almost no way that deakin is ever gonna win this athletic's carnival. i can't believe they got rid of the 800m participation race! and made 400m the starting ceremony! that's just crap! and they could have told us earlier so that we would have known to enter 800m competition. *sulks*

now we just have to put on stunning performance for house music and sports. too bad kiera wasn't here today. maybe we would have been more enthusiastic if she had been. *sigh*

on the plus side -- i have now finished all my maths homework and i think i get this binomial blah-ness. person who wrote the textbook really should be shot, though. seems like they can't get the right answers.

bori: i've just realised -- this captaincy business is just their way of giving us more work. they give us all the dirty work and they do it so cleverly that they have us fighting over who gets it!
von: don't worry, bori... we've learnt our lesson -- we'll have our kids fighting for 'captain of the dishes'
bori: and 'captain of the vacuum cleaner'!

*von collapses in library* soooo tired... was up til 3 doing french oral and chapel service!
clairesie: go back to sleep, vonnie

sophie: *runs into maths late... as always* i'm sorry i'm late! i got hungry...
mr joyce: next time, why don't you just say that it's snowing outside?

aaahhh... see what being in 11/12 german does to someone? we're all perpetually hungry.

later...
mr joyce: *looking at maths problem* you know, this has a typo. it says 'jane' instead of 'sophie'...
problem reads "jane's alarm clock doesn't ring 1 in 20 days..."

ariel: *falls off chair laughing*
heidi sensei: i don't think this boy is good for ariel... look! she can't even sit on a chair!
later...
ariel: *opens door* arrgh!
tessa: you really have changed! you used to be all quiet and shy...

mrs bardwell: now, are you ready to read that naughty poem by that naughty man?

frau schiessl: *stares at yr 12s* are you really ready to work? or do you think the year's finished? YEAR 12 ISN'T FINISHED YET!!!
us: huh? yes it is!!!

sich verlieben

Busie old foole, unruly Sunne,
Why dost thou thus,
Through windowes, and through curtaines call on us?
Must to thy motions lovers seasons run?
Sawcy pedantique wretch, goe chide
Late schoole boyes, and sowre pretices,
Goe tell Court-huntsmen, that the King will ride,
Call countrey ants to harvest offices;
Love, all alike, no season knowes, not clyme,
Nor houres, dayes, months, which are the rags of time.

Thy beams, so reverend, and strong
Why shouldst thou thinke?
I could eclipse and cloud them with a winke,
But that I would not lose her sight so long:
If her eyes have not blinded thine,
Looke, and to morrow late, tell mee,
Whether both the'India's of spice and Myne
Be where thou leftst them, or lie here with mee.
Aske for those Kings whom thou saw'st yesterday,
And thou shalt hear, All here in one bed lay.

She'is all States, and all Princes, I,
Nothing else is.
Princes doe but play us; compar'd to this
All honor's mimique; All wealth alchimie.
Thou sunne art halft as happy'as wee,
In that the world'contracted thus;
Thine age askes ease, and since thy duties bee
To warme the world, that's done in warming us.
Shine here to us, and thou art every where;
This bed thy center is, these walls, thy spheare.

*swoons* this -- the Sunne Rising by John Donne -- is the most romantic poem ever, reckons von. ok, well, maybe not the most, but it certainly is swoon-worthy. if you don't get it, i'm most happy to gush about it.

:: pirates, lost boys, and indians ::
peter pan was AWESOME, as said before. was indeed good to see the outcome of months and months of work and tears. poor poor peter pan. so sad that she lost her voice and mrs t. had to sing for her. but was funny to see tim think that bonnie was really singing. *cackles some more*

:: pastry, creaming soda, and apple pie ::
dumpling night was yummy. i did a lot of putting dumplings in boiling stock and stirring, etc. which helped to take my mind off things. then dot, jess, yuka, nick etc. made me EAT, which untook my mind off those things. but that's ok. i got a bit of thinking time. i got one of the creaming soda "dumplings", not being an actual dumpling because it didn't have any filling in it (creaming soda is not filling). then i left my awesome copy of jane austen's persuasion at fenner hall. :( thanks nick for bringing it back to me.

have learnt that my indo has gone down the drain -- what does lima mean again? :P but i remember how to count now. i just have to count up to it -- satu, dua, tiga...

s'embrouiller
"No; hatred had vanished long ago, and she had almost as long been ashamed of ever feeling a dislike against him, that could be so called. The respect created by the conviction of his valuable qualities, though at first unwillingly admitted, had for some time ceased to be repugnant to her feelings; and it was now heightened into somewhat of a friendlier nature, by the testimony so highly in his favour, and bring forward his disposition in so amiable a light, which yesterday had produced. But above all, above respect and esteem, there was a motive within her of good will which could not be overlooked. It was gratitude. -- Gratitude, not merely for having once loved her, but for loving her still well enough, to forgive all the petulance and acrimony of her manner in rejecting him, and all the unjust accusations accompanying her rejection."
-- Pride and Prejudice, p177, chapter 44

"'If I loved a man, as she loves the Admiral, I would always be with him, nothing should ever separate us, and I would rather be overturned by him, than driven safely by any body else.'"
-- Persuasion, p89, chapter 10

"Never had he called me more frequently to his presence; never been kinder to me when there -- and, alas! never had I loved him so well."
-- Jane Eyre, p277, chapter 22

alright something's happening
'cause everyone's around
but you're the only one i see
-- i can't take my eyes off of you, high school musical

"'You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged, but one word from you will silence me on this subject for ever.'"
-- Pride and Prejudice, p246, chapter 58

i am way too proud to verbalise my feelings
and you're way too mean if you just let this brew
it's a complicated hand that you've been dealing,
time to win me over, fold and make your move
-- still in love, brooke fraser

"'In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.'"
-- Pride and Prejudice, p128-9, chapter 34

"She had left the instrument on the dancing being over, and he had sat down to try to make out an air which he wished to give the Miss Musgroves an idea of. Unintentionally she returned to that part of the room; he saw her, and, instantly rising, said, with studied politeness,
'I beg your pardon, madam, this is your seat;'"
-- Persuasion, p76, chapter 8

"She tried to be calm, and leave things to take their course, and tried to dwell much on this argument of rational dependence -- 'Surely, if there be constant attachment on each side, our hearts must understand each other ere long.'"
-- Persuasion, p234, chapter 22

"'If he does not come to me, then,' said she, 'I shall give him up for ever.'"
-- Pride and Prejudice, p228, chapter 54

'You,' I said, 'a favourite with Mr Rochester? You gifted with the power of pleasing him? You of importance to him in any way? Go! your folly sickens me. And you have derived pleasure from occasional tokens of preference -- equivocal tokens, shown by a gentleman of family, and a man of the world, to a dependant and a novice. How dare you? Poor stupid dope! ... It does good to no woman to be flattered by her superior, who cannot possibly intend to marry her; and it is madness in all women to let a secret love kindle within them, which, if unreturned and unknown, must devour the life that feeds it; and if discovered and responded to, must lead, ignis-fatuus-like, into miry wilds whence there is no extrication."
-- Jane Eyre, p182, chapter 16

it's funny when you find yourself
looking from the outside
i'm standing here
and all i want
is to be over there
why did i let myself believe
miracles could happen
'cause now i have to pretend
that i don't really care

i thought you were my fairytale
a dream when i'm not sleeping
a wish upon a star
that's coming true
-- when there was me and you, high school musical

"He is younger than I am; younger in feeling, if not in fact; younger as a man. He will rally again, and be happy with another."
-- Persuasion, p103, chapter 11

"My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath -- a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I am Heathcliff -- he's always, always in my mind -- not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself -- but, as my own being -- so, don't talk of our separation again"
-- Wuthering Heights, p83, chapter 9

tale as old as time
true as it can be
barely even friends
then somebody bends unexpectedly

just a little change
more to say the least
both a little scared
neither one prepared

désespoir
so starts the beginning of von falling apart.

von stayed home from school for the first time in years - true, i only had 3 classes today, but they were important classes. i feel like i've let the german team down because now i only have 1 day to practice my bit before we go on air on thursday morning. i'm gonna fail my english inclass because i missed the last lesson before the test. and i missed gate duty because i just couldn't get out of bed this morning.

von's sick but then again, she's been sick many, many times before and she's never wimped out of school. she always curls her lip in disdain at people skipping school for the slightest reason. and here she is, curled up in her bright pink blankie, reading persuasion and channel-surfing for german news.

i'm drawn back to a time in year 10 when nay didn't go to school for a week. i feel like her. but i will go to school all this week and the next week and every other week until i graduate.

O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, in your name I will lift up my hands psalm63.1-4
